JOIN OUR TEAM

We could not do what we do without the thousands of hours of work donated by our dedicated team of more than 100 volunteers!

Thanks to their leadership, we are able to consistently provide nutritious and fresh food to those in our community who need it most. We thank each and every one of our volunteers for the work they do on a weekly basis. They are the reason our programs run so smoothly every single week!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please click on the links below for details on our current opportunities:

(NOTE: The list below is current and up to date. Nourish East End does not keep a volunteer waiting list.)

Monday Morning Delivery Help

Nourish East End receives its large Daily Bread delivery every Monday morning. From 8am to approximately 11am, we require volunteers to help us unload delivered items from the skids and load them onto our conveyor belt system, to help lift delivered items onto carts and store them where required, to help sort items and stock our shelves, and to help in the kitchen to portion larger items.

Applicants looking to help with the unloading of skids should be able to lift up to 50lbs. Applicants looking to help with other tasks do not need to be able to lift that much.

To apply to help us with our Monday morning deliveries, please contact Marie at nourishvolunteers@eastendunited.ca, with “Monday AM Application” in the subject line.

Monday Secondary Delivery and Clean Up Help

We need help every Monday, between 11am and approximately 2pm (end time can vary), to clean up and reset the space following our large Daily Bread delivery, and to accept our smaller, secondary deliveries.

Applicants should be able to lift up to 50lbs.

To apply to help us with our secondary Monday morning deliveries, please contact Marie at nourishvolunteers@eastendunited.ca, with “Monday 2nd Deliveries Application” in the subject line.

Community Dinners Volunteer

Nourish East End hosts a Community Dinner on the 4th Monday of every month. We’re looking for help to fill a number of different kitchen prep and cooking roles, greeting roles, cleaning roles, and set-up/take-down roles.

To apply to help us with our Community Dinners, please contact Anne and Dianne at communitydinners@eastendunited.ca, with “Community Dinners Volunteer Application” in the subject line.

Wednesday Between-the-Shifts Restock Help

We need help every Wednesday from 11am to 2pm (between our morning and afternoon markets) to receive our Second Harvest deliveries and to restock our shelves before we open the doors for our afternoon market at 2pm.

Applicants should be able to lift up to 50lbs.

To apply to help us on Wednesdays between shifts, please contact Marie at nourishvolunteers@eastendunited.ca, with “Wed Between Shifts Application” in the subject line.

Wednesday Food Bank Volunteer (Summer Coverage)

Our Wednesday market volunteer roster is quite full; however, some of our volunteers will be taking some well-deserved vacation time this summer. We are looking to add a few extra volunteers to our roster to help us cover summer vacations. While this is currently only a summer position, there is a possibility for volunteers to remain with us afterwards.

Available shifts are every Wednesday from 8:30am to 11am, and/or 1:30pm to 4:30pm (applicants may choose to volunteer during one shift, or all day if desired).

Applicants should expect to fill both client-facing and behind-the-scenes positions.

To apply to help us cover summer vacations, please contact Marie at nourishvolunteers@eastendunited.ca, with “Wed Summer Coverage Application” in the subject line.

Wednesday Morning Accessibility Help

We are looking for a few strong volunteers every Wednesday from 8:30am to 11am to help our clients bring their groceries upstairs once they are done shopping. Our exit is equipped with an adjustable ramp to ease the transportation of rolling carts.

Applicants should be able to lift up to 50lbs.

To apply to help our guests with their groceries, please contact Marie at nourishvolunteers@eastendunited.ca, with “Wed AM Accessibility Application” in the subject line.

Leslieville Farmers’ Market Volunteer Driver

From Sunday, May 10th to Sunday, October 25th, Nourish East End will require the help of volunteer drivers for the Leslieville Farmers’ Market (Greenwood Park). Volunteers will be asked to collect all donated produce from vendors at the end of each market day (shift runs from approximately 1:30pm to 2:30pm), drive them back to the food bank, and ensure their proper storage (staff will be present to accept delivery of donations).

Applicants should be able to lift up to 50lbs, or be accompanied by a partner who can do the lifting for them.

To apply to be a volunteer driver, please contact Marie at nourishvolunteers@eastendunited.ca, with “LFM Driver Application” in the subject line.

Leslieville Farmers’ Market Donation Collection Help

At the end of every market, many vendors generously donate fresh produce that went unsold and cannot be returned to their farms. We need the help of volunteers to do the rounds of every vendor at the end of market to collect, and track, donations (rolling cart will be provided by LFM). Donations will then be picked up by a volunteer driver.

Shifts are available every Sunday from May 10th to October 25th, between approximately 1:30pm and 2pm.

To apply to help collect donated produce, please contact Marie at nourishvolunteers@eastendunited.ca, with “LFM Donation Collection Application” in the subject line.

Leslieville Farmers’ Market Booth Volunteer

Nourish East End will have a booth at the Leslieville Farmers’ Market on the 3rd Sunday of every month between May 10th and October 25th. We need the help of a few volunteers to help set up our booth, talk with community members about who we are and what we do, invite neighbours to our Community Dinners, collect donated produce, and help take down the booth at the end of the day.

Shifts run from 9am to 2pm; volunteers may sign up for half days or full days.

To apply to volunteer at our booth, please contact Marie at nourishvolunteers@eastendunited.ca, with “LFM Booth Application” in the subject line.

Student Volunteering Opportunities

During the summer months, we welcome the help of student volunteers (ages 16+) who are looking to complete their high school volunteering hours.

All currently-available volunteer positions can be filled by students.* Students applying to help with our weekly deliveries, or with out weekly food bank market, will be expected to fill their shift every week during the summer months.

To apply to complete your volunteer hours with us, interested students should contact Marie themselves at nourishvolunteers@eastendunited.ca, with “Student Volunteer Application” in the subject line, and specify which position they are interested in filling.

*Volunteer driver positions will only be given to those holding a full G-class license, and who are over 18 years of age.

Group Volunteering Opportunities

The Nourish East End food bank is a market-style food bank; as such, we do not pack hampers to distribute to our clients. This reduces our capacity to be able to welcome groups who wish to organize team volunteering events.

To discuss how your team could contribute to Nourish East End, please contact Ryan at nourishresources@eastendunited.ca.

VOLUNTEER TESTIMONIAL!

“Hello, my name is David and I’m a retired professor working as a volunteer for Nourish East End. I’ve been volunteering for over 6 months now and have really enjoyed the experience. It’s a great way to help others and to give back to the Community that has offered so much to me and my family over the years. I’ve also enjoyed being part of a terrific team of like-minded individuals (packers, drivers, admin staff) who create an enjoyable and supportive environment that make coming to work a genuine pleasure twice a week!”
