About our Community Dinners

Community Dinners are an integral part of our programming at Nourish East End. On the fourth Monday of every month, we open our doors to our entire community and welcome everyone to share & enjoy a hot meal together. Our community dinners are open to all, regardless of economic circumstances. There is no sign-up or registration required, just bring yourself to 1470 Gerrard Street East!

Community Dinners were the first programs we offered as an organization, predating our food bank services. Our team fondly remembers the days when these dinners were just a spark in someone’s mind, and thankfully we are here many years later, to see the impact of this idea. Centred on the principles of solidarity, respect, and inclusivity, our Community Dinners started as a collective effort to ensure folks had a safe space to enjoy a warm meal amongst neighbours and friends. We believe that access to fresh and consistent food is critical for our health and wellbeing, yet we cannot forget or overlook the need for human connection. Our Dinners started as a way to provide social connection to those in attendance, helping to shift the isolation experienced by so many folks living in poverty and experiencing food insecurity. We strive to create a space that can simultaneously provide access to a warm meal, but also meaningful social connection.

Our community dinners would not be possible without the tireless efforts of our incredible team of staff and volunteers. Every month, our volunteers help prep, cook, and cleanup for every single dinner we host. They show up with a smile on their face and greet every single one of our guests with kindness and respect. We appreciate and admire their efforts and thank them for helping Nourish East End continue on with hosting these dinners, we could not do it without our volunteers!

If you would like to join our volunteer roster, please email Anne Premi at communitydinners@eastendunited.ca.  She will put you on the list to receive the monthly volunteer signup sheet. We would love to have your help!

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

There is no signup or registration required for our community dinners. We provide dinnerware and cutlery as well, so no need to bring anything as well. We look forward to hopefully sharing a meal with you in the future!

We strive to create a delicious & nutritious menu for each and every one of our community dinners. We ensure different food groups are reflected in the meals we serve, and that everything is as fresh and warm as possible. Our menu is typically decided a week or two in advance of every dinner. If you have any dietary concerns or questions about what is being served, you can always send us an email.
